The iconic department store Samaritaine Paris Pont-Neuf has been reopened by LVMH following a meticulous renovation spanning 70,000 square metres.
A distinctive glass façade has been integrated on the Rue de Rivoli, designed by Japanese firm Sanaa, and the Samaritaine has regained its vast glass roof with an Eiffel-style iron frame, originally designed by architect Frantz Jourdain in 1907.
Art Nouveau lava stone ceramics, a heritage central staircase featuring 16,000 gold leaves and an expansive peacock mural designed by Francis Jourdain are also key features of the restoration project. The buildings have been certified to numerous environmental standards in keeping with LVMH’s LIFE 360 environmental programme.
