The Odunpazari Modern Museum (OMM) has opened in Eskisehir, Turkey, with a distinctive design by Kengo Kuma and Associates.
The acclaimed Japanese architects, who also designed the V&A Dundee, created a stacked timber build inspired by the surrounding streetscape of Odunpazari and its history as a timber-trading market.
The museum features the largest-ever installation by prolific bamboo artist Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, which stands at six by eight metres and is comprised entirely from recycled ‘Tiger Bamboo’, unique to a mountain in Kochi, Japan.
OMM’s inaugural exhibition features more than 100 works by 60 contemporary artists, predominantly from Turkey.
